Organic Wheatgrass, Barley Grass & Fresh tray greens

Our wheatgrass is grown to strict organic standards using carefully selected unhulled organic spelt grain grown and approved by Green Seed Company. In addition bio-dynamic practices are employed from field to tray and organic fortifying nutrients are used making this a truly exceptional superfood.

Every tray is perfect, every time.

The grass has a distinctively dark, chlorophyll rich colour with broad blades and the trays are densely packed. We are confident you will find this grass superior to that of all other origins. Every other grass we have sampled has let itself down in one of these areas: sparse growth, poor colour, narrow blades and even mold.

Our wheatgrass is grown by Green Seed Company, a little known grower of thousands of trays per week supplying the UK's juice bars, including Crush, Fresh & Wild, Planet Organic, Wholefoods, Zest, I'm A Smoothie and Boost Juice to name but a few. Green Seed Company was founded in 1975 and was already supplying London cancer patients by 1976. Nobody knows grass better, and in fact it is Green Seed that were responsible for re-introducing the ancient spelt variety of wheat that is used to today for the wheatgrass you are buying here.

We also offer organic barley grass and organic snow pea greens year round, as well as sunflower and buckwheat lettuces seasonally and depending on seed quality. Often sunflower seeds fall short of the high standards expected from Green Seed customers and so it may be unavailable for this reason.

All tray greens are priced £4.75 per tray + £8 shipping = £17.50 for 2 trays, £27 for 4 trays and so on. To ensure safe carriage our tray greens are packaged in multiples of two. Trays measure 24x36 cm / 9.5x14.5 inches.

The Wheatgrass FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

What makes wheatgrass a real superfood?
There are over 7000 varieties of grass on our blue green planet, why choose the grasses of wheat and barley? The secret in the super nutrition of these grases goes beyond their excellent nutrional profile, which you will already know contains a wide spectrum of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and of course chlorophyl. The secret is in how many minerals these grasses will take-up. You see, the more minerals that are bio-available in the growing medium the more a plant will take-up. Because most plants dislike growing in a soil that is completely void of minerals, commercial farming has learnt to repeatedly add NPK to the soil (that's nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium - just 3 minerals). However, there are 92+ minerals on the periodic table and fortifying the soil with all of them not only produces stronger & more disease resistant crops, but of course passes on more minerals to you (and logically you'll be stronger and more disease resistant too). This was exhibited extensively by Dr Maynard Murray and those that have followed his work, which you can read about in his book Sea Energy Agriculture. The point is that even with all 92 minerals available most plants will take-up only a third to a half of them based on some sort of biological preference. But wheatgrass is different - wheatgrass will draw up all 92 minerals from the soil IF available. That's why wheatgrass, and that's also why wheatgrass from Green Seed Company, who fortify the soil with additional nutrients.

How many shots of wheatgrass does a tray provide?
Each tray will yield on average 8 shots of grass juice if kept watered and juiced in an efficient machine such as the juicers for sale here. This means that your 2 trays will last for a week providing 2 shots per day (and double on Sunday!) - the recommended amount. You can now easily decide how many trays you will need each week depending on how much you wish to consume and how many of you there are in your household.

When will the grass be delivered?
We typically dispatch our wheatgrass on Tuesday every week to avoid bank holidays and the weekend. This means your grass will be delivered on Wednesday during normal working hours. If you are likely to be out during these hours we can arrange for the grass to be delivered to a neighbour or to be left in a safe location accessible from the front of your property, e.g. a porch. Some times our grass deliveries are a day late due to changes in weather and growing conditions.

How do I take care of the grass?
Growing grass takes some skill but once it's delivered caring for it couldn't be easier. Simply place the grass outdoors (no matter what the weather) but not in direct sunlight and water with around half a litre per tray per day. The grass can be kept indoors so long as there is ventilation and no adjacenet heat sources, and you will need to take care when watering as the trays have holes for drainage. This will keep your grass healthy and ensure you receive excellent juice yield with maximum chlorophyll.
